Mark your calendar for Paris in 2019
October 14, 2018
By Patricia Tennison
It’s been a while since I’ve used a paper calendar—remember those?—but when I did I favored the back-to-school variety, the ones that started in September and October. That’s the time to make plans for the year: the workload, the holidays—that trip to Paris.
If you’re tempted to join us for your first summer experience with Paris Cafe Writing—or come back for the more theme-oriented November session for returnees—this is a good time to register at www.ParisCafeWriting.com.
The sessions do fill. There are just two spots open for the week of June 2–8; four spots for June 16–22 week; and six for the November 17–23 returnee week.
Themes for returnee weeks
(In November, I’ll be seeing the usual returnee gang in Paris. They will get first-ups for the November 3–9 in 2019, and likely will again fill it. However, call me to get on that 2019 waiting list, or just register for the second November week above.)
On the returnee weeks, some of the restaurants are familiar—Christian!—but I always change some of the writing sessions and insert a writing theme. One year our writing focused on sensuality and the entertainment included front row seats (frankly, that was just luck) at one of the more tasteful girly shows; another year was remembrance with a surprise excursion to the famous Père Lachaise Cemetery; this year I had to reveal one of the surprises to this well-traveled group and tell them that I had already bought tickets for them to attend the exceptional Klimt exhibit at the new Atelier des Lumières (Click here for the Atelier newsletter.) But ha! They don’t know the surprise writing exercise that goes with it …
Tip: The boutique hotels in our neighborhood that I recommend on my website under Housing also tend to fill up. Do not pre-pay extra for breakfast; you get a continental breakfast almost every day with your Paris Cafe Writing tuition.
Tip: There is a $100 discount on the Paris Cafe Writing tuition if you register by February 15, 2019.
I’ll let one of the previous attendees have the last words:
“Paris Café Writing was a bit life altering. Paris is a little like that anyway, but Patricia Tennison made it a great deal more so in many ways. Her program is well designed and she has a sharp, analytical writer’s eye.
Patricia created a special seven-day experience through her choices of cafes and other venues to sharing lesser known bits of Paris and the fabulous Marais district. Her teaching techniques were subtle but remarkably effective. I wish I had spent 7 days like this in Paris a long time ago!”
