Day by Day

Pre-arrival

Before the session, you will have a reading assignment and you will be asked to send a little information about yourself that we can share.

Sunday

Morning: Free to overcome jet lag and settle into your apartment or hotel room.

7 p.m.: Welcome dinner at a casual French restaurant in the hip 11th. Descend into the vaulted cellar and toast to the coming week.

Monday

9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.: Orientation and writing seminar with coffee and croissants at a café in the 3rd arrondissement. (See “Workshops” for more writing details.)

Sign up for a 30-minute personal session on a day later this week when we can quietly focus on your writing.

Noon to 2 p.m.: Walking tour on the Right Bank, with “street-food” lunch (falafel & Italian sorbet) plus literary spots, a stunning vegetation wall, and cool shops you can return to later on your own.

6 p.m.: Meander through the famous Shakespeare and Company bookstore, followed by dinner on the terrace or by the wood fire of a charming Left Bank restaurant.

Tuesday

Tip: If you’re up early, take in the morning food market at Boulevard Richard Lenoir.

9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.: Writing seminar at a café in the 3rd arrondissement.

Noon to 2 p.m.: Lunch at a cafe.

Afternoon: Free to write at your favorite café and wander Paris.

7 p.m.: Dinner and concert at the top-rated jazz spot, Duc des Lombards in the Les Halles area.

Wednesday

9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.: Writing seminar with coffee and croissants at a café in the 3rd arrondissement.

Afternoon and evening: Free to write at your favorite café and wander Paris.

If you’ve already taken in the Eiffel Tower and walked the Champs Elysées, you could perhaps check out the Maison Européenne de la Photographie or head to Montmartre for a stunning view of Paris.

Tip: The Louvre is open Wednesday and Friday nights until 10 p.m.; it’s a good time to go.

Thursday

Free day.

If you’re up early, take in the morning food market at Bastille.

This is also a good day for an excursion outside of Paris. The excellent train system can take you to Louis XIV’s Versailles; the cathedral in Chartres; champagne and the cathedral in Reims; or tapestries in Angers. Or hunker down at your favorite café. You will be in France, writing.

Friday

9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.: Writing seminar at a café in the 3rd arrondissement.

Noon to 2 p.m.: Lunch at a cafe.

Afternoon and evening: Free to write at your favorite café and wander Paris.

Saturday

9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.: Writing seminar with coffee and croissants at a café in the 3rd arrondissement.

Afternoon and early evening: Free to write at your favorite café and wander Paris.

8 p.m.: Farewell dinner at perhaps the fabulous La Coupole brasserie on Boulevard Montparnasse.

Sunday

Travel home.
